It is throwback time by sharing with you some metal songs I was listening to when I was a teen (links will open in a new tab so you can keep scrolling). They are quite famous bands but at that time it was difficult to discover more “obscure” bands. Internet wasn’t as widely popular as it is now.
Deftones – My Own Summer. Because I love Chino’s voice. I am still listening to them. They are one of the remnants of the nu metal scene and are still touring and releasing new albums. I really have a thing for “Minerva” which was released a few years later.
Puddle Of Mudd – Control. I won’t talk about all the troubles surrounding the singer Wes Scantlin. I will only focus on the music. This band makes a nice grungy music and Wes’ screaming makes it even more captivating. I still really enjoy there music.
Andrew WK – Party Hard. “When its time to party, we will party hard“. An hymn to a generation. I already made a post about him here so I won’t add more.
Staind – Mudshovel. My first Staind track and gosh, that bass at the beginning…
System Of A Down – Toxicity. There is no need to present this band. I will just add that Serj Tankian had a solo career after SOAD, and Daron Malakian founded “Scars on Broadway“.
Rammstein – Ich Will. My love for Rammstein started with this track. It was a good motivation to learn German and I am sure I wasn’t the only one feeling that way. I really enjoyed their first album “Herzeleid” and its rawness and industrial vibe, “Sehnsucht” which was more electro, and “Mutter” which was to me a great achievement. After that I stopped listening to them. There were few tracks I liked but I wasn’t into it as much as before. Not especially because they didn’t make good music anymore but more probably because my tastes changed and I went into an ebm/electrodark/industrial music phase #itsnotaphasemom.
Static X – Cold. I hesitated between “Cold” and “Black & White”. But just because vampires were real metalheads at that time (Yes, I am looking at you Edward đ), and also because I think it was the first track from Static X I listened to, I chose the former.
Eths – Samantha. Finally some French metal. To me, Eths is Candice’s voice and only hers. So nothing exists after III đ (to be honest, the last album of Eths I listened was TĂŠratologie, so I can’t tell if it was good or not). Their most popular track is probably “Crucifère”.
Rob Zombie – Dragula. I discovered this track in a video game called “Sled Storm”…and then I entered into Rob Zombie’s world. I had the opportunity to see the band play at the Bataclan in Paris in 2019. Definitely worth it live.
Linkin Park – One Step Closer. I had to put this band on the list because my love for metal music started with them and their album “Hybrid Theory”. The whole album was incredible.
