Follow Me Not – When Winter’s Gone

Follow Me Not was originally a solo project from Nicolas Guerroué which turned into a two-man adventure with the arrival of Mike Chevalier. With an 80s bass sound, and a lot of distortion, this explosive cocktail present in “When Winter’s Gone” will definitely make you think of The Jesus and Mary Chain. This track is taken from their 7th album “Vanishing Smile”. The rest of the album is more post-punk oriented. You can check it out here: https://followmenot.bandcamp.com/album/vanishing-smile

Chyldren – Creatures

Okay. So I went the other day to see the band Soon, She Said at the Supersonic (Paris) and Chyldren was playing before them, and…I loved it. Was it because of the singer’s smile letting the audience know she was happy to be here? Maybe it helped. But it was above all because of the music, of course. Justine was using a mi.mu glove on stage to modulate her voice. It was the first time I came across this and it is quite practical. You can see the demonstration of it by Justine here: https://youtu.be/HstY8Q3yLpk. The bass player was playing with a pick which is not epic, but we will forgive him. Unfortunately, the volume of the voice live was not loud enough compared to the other instruments to enjoy it as much as in the album.

My favourite tracks? Definitely “From The Earth To The Moon”, “Creatures”, and the first half of “Medusa”. Which one is yours?

Je T’aime – Merry-Go-Round

Here is some sexy post-punk/coldwave from Paris. I recommend also to check out “Watch Out!”, the last track of their first album. If you are not convinced about their music and find it “Meh”, I advise you to go see them live. It brings more power and strength to their sound. For instance, you can compare the song “Hide & Seek” from their album (https://jetaimetheband.bandcamp.com/album/je-taime) and from a live show at Le Gibus in Paris: https://youtu.be/yDZPQtt63PQ?t=945. I also put a live version of “The flying dutchman” at the Supersonic below.

Soma Cake – When We Where (Angels)

Soma Cake is a Mexican band who released it’s first full length in 2018. They were back by the end of 2019 with a new EP. Their music is a nice mixture of shoegaze and post-punk where you get the best of both genre. You can listen to their EP below.

L’an2000 – Je te fuis

This is the story of three guys living in Vendée (a French Department) who got bored. They decided to form a band and to start playing music. L’an2000 is the result and it’s great. Their music lead us in some kind of retrofuturistic universe.

I don’t know why but I directly imagined people dancing on it the same way the French humorists “Les Inconnus” danced in their Indochine parody (https://youtu.be/kKAI6gp7jIc).

I would also suggest you to go watch their music video of “The Light“.
